A Solo Exhibition by Adam Handler
Somewhere Near Home
15 January 2025 – 1 March 2025
LOY Contemporary Art Gallery is proud to unveil Somewhere Near Home, a new solo exhibition by acclaimed contemporary artist Adam Handler. Known for his bold, playful style and evocative subject matter, Handler’s latest collection invites audiences to reflect on the notion of “home”— both as a physical space and emotional sanctuary.
In Somewhere Near Home, Handler draws on his signature use of vivid colors, whimsical characters, and layered compositions to explore the comfort, nostalgia, and complexity associated with the idea of home. Each artwork acts as a visual narrative, portraying the familiar yet often ambiguous spaces that evoke a sense of belonging and warmth. Through a blend of childlike innocence and deeper emotional undertones, Handler challenges viewers to consider what “home” truly means in the context of memory, relationships, and identity.
“Home is more than a place,” says Handler.
“It’s a feeling, a connection, something we carry with us—sometimes near, sometimes far, but always present in the way we perceive the world.” Handler’s exhibition features large-scale paintings and mixed media works that transport viewers to dreamlike settings, with recurring themes of family, security, and self-reflection. His characters, often marked by simple yet expressive forms, act as vessels for emotions, speaking to the universal desire for belonging and the comfort found in familiar spaces, whether real or imagined.
